Mothers day celebrations, why do we have poor health care for our mums

As we celebrate Mother’s day in 2025. The apathy and injustice in women’s health care in UK is causing great harm to our mothers from lack of safeguarding and early intervention in today’s health care!
As we come to the end of March and Endometriosis awareness month. The data is worse than ever. Alarming, decline is unprecedented…. Data was bad when I wrote about this condition in 2010 in my first book on women’s and children’s health issues. In fifteen years nothing has changed only worsened! Little action has been taken to help women.
Data collection is ongoing; however solutions or reducing the condition remain scarce, non existant.
Considering 190 million women suffer endometriosis worldwide, 1 in 10 (150 million in UK). Despite making up 51% of the population, women face enormous challenges in their lives living with just one condition, endometriosis. 1 in 5 suffer from long term menstrual issues, this has gone on for decades. Fact is Diabetes at 12% of population is less than those who suffer endometriosis. Yet the structure and support for Diabetes is vast. Nothing in place for endometriosis or reducing menstrual issues.
Why do we still have these disparities?
NHS is failing women big time. Little evidence is given of hormone and menstrual issues being core reasons. Although factors are various, overload of Oestrogen is a big factor in menstrual and endometriosis conditions. Birth pill, steroids and HRT may be part of the problem with Oestrogen overload issues being formed. Because each of us are unique in our Oestrogen supplies held within, it is therefore essential, to assess individually. To return to basics, anatomy, biochemical and hormonal imbalances, look at individuals and their unique needs instead of the heard approach, that evidently does nothing for these conditions.
The extreme situations women find themselves in today untreated or unacknowledged health conditions is alarming. Ignorance remains around female conditions, misdiagnosed, misunderstood, spotlights caverns of extraordinary gaps in women’s health structures. Clearly health professionals are not trained effectively in women’s menstrual, endometriosis and menopause health issues. Women have been known to visit GPs up to 10 times before they are taken seriously.
A catalogue of errors exist in health training and gender blind sports within NHS. Attitudes and ignorance continue daily outcomes and long term suffering women live. Even when hysterectomy is received, women are so ill it takes years for them to recover from surgery due to poor body state beforehand. I know this personally and professionally. Took me 2 years to recover and I required iron over several months before my body was capable to receive surgery. At 33 a sad state of affairs and unfortunately common today.
Timeframes of diagnosis on endometriosis is staggering, and drives most of the elongated issues, leaving women to suffer anything from 8 years 9 months in England to 10 years 9 months in Wales before given a diagnosis. Specialist centres are a post code lottery, mostly from mid England to south. Nothing in the north. Scotland has one, Northern Ireland one and Wales zero. Appauling state of lack of support and apathy exists around women’s health. No infrastructure exists to speed up helping women with menstrual, Gyne, menopausal conditions. And this is a global concern.
Due to extreme waiting times, extreme outcomes occur, the domino effect to health includes cancer. Logically could be prevented, with faster action and recognition, slowing down outcomes if early intervention and diagnosis existed .
A blind practice that has gone on for 30 years. Unacceptable and devastating to women, belittled, unheard, ignored and dismissed. Spotlighting professionals and NHS ignorance is part of the continued problem.
No safeguarding or education exists, Wales has introduced small practices in schools, which is applauded. However women need action, prevention and women can’t wait while we debate. They lose great swathes of quality of life, children are suffering due to mothers ill health, social and personal relationship impacts exist.
At a society level, up to 11 billion a year economically personal and business hits.
No doubt we need change and prevention urgently to ensure we stop future generations repeating the inadequacy that remains. Criminal and unjust as women lose their health and quality of life.
Time we started showing humility and compassion to women and stop the gender imbalances that exist in today’s health care society. The disparity has gone on long enough, urgent change in thinking and safeguarding is needed NOW.
